Block 5 2023: Adventures in Bozeman, Montana
Rotation/Weekly Adventures:
This week, we continued to dispense medications in the clinic and finished two writing assignments. These writing assignments included the USP <800> Standard Operating Procedure for Hazardous Drugs and a handout on the two RSV monoclonal antibodies/two RSV vaccines that are currently available. On Wednesday, we attended the P&T Committee to present both writing assignments to the other pharmacy staff and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Wind River clinics.
We continued to explore different places to eat in Lander. We went to Cowfish for dinner one night and it was very delicious! They have an assortment of different foods, so we were both able to find something we liked. We also went to the Italian restaurant Mulinos! This is also a great choice if you want pasta. They even had a gnocchi dish which was amazing!
At the end of the week, it snowed! It got very cold, but it was fun to experience the snow and the change in season. We both had to pull out our long winter coats and our boots. If you come during the winter months, don’t forget your gloves and a hat! It is a dry cold here, and the temperature can drop very low, so it will turn your ears and hands red. We both forgot gloves, so we went to Walmart in Riverton to buy some.
Bozeman, Montana:
We headed to Bozeman, Montana for the weekend! It was still snowing, and the roads were very slippery, so we had to drive slowly and very carefully most of the way there. We learned that they do not put salt on the roads, so be very careful if you travel during the winter months. We recommend getting a car with four wheel drive. It made us feel safer when we were traveling on the snowy and icy roads as the four wheel drive prevented some of the slipping when we drove over ice.
While in Bozeman, we explored their downtown area. The downtown area has lots of cute places to shop and eat. We ate lunch at the Revelry. We recommend this restaurant if you visit Bozeman! We went on a Saturday, so we did have to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth the wait! Kristin got the avocado toast with a side salad and Anne Thomas got the loaded potatoes with a side salad. We got the truffle fries as an appetizer to split. All our food was delicious!

When heading home on Sunday, we stopped by the Montana Grizzly Encounter right outside of Bozeman. This is a Grizzly Bear Rescue and Education Sanctuary for Grizzly Bears who were rescued from inhumane captive situations or who were orphaned in the wild. These bears would not be able to survive in the wild, so the sanctuary provides them with the best and most natural life that they can. We got to see Max, the only male Grizzly Bear at the sanctuary. He was abandoned by his mom when he was born. At the sanctuary, you get to see the bears in their outside habitat. This was a very neat experience because the sanctuary employees give you information about the bears and how the sanctuary works while you are watching the bears play in the habitat!

After the Montana Grizzly Encounter, we stopped in Livingston, Montana to eat lunch. This was such a cute town because it feels as if you are stepping back in time. We went to Fiesta En Jalisco for lunch and then stopped in a local coffee shop for some hot chocolate. The scenery is beautiful because the town is surrounded by mountains.
