Traveling to Wyoming Part 2: Block 3

Hello everyone!

My name is Madison, and I am writing to you after completing the first week of my rotation in Wyoming! It has been an incredible experience so far, and I can not wait to share it with you all over the course of this rotation!

The first thing I wanted to share with you all is a follow up to my classmate (+ rotation buddy!!) Mackenzie's post regarding travel! She gave you guys all the info about making the drive here, but I wanted to share my experience flying for those who choose to go that route!

The first thing to consider when flying is to be sure you are aware of your chosen airlines packing requirements (weight limits, fluid sizes, etc.). You are coming here for 5 weeks, and if you are anything like me you will want to bring a lot of stuff, so know that flying does limit what you can bring (For example Mackenzie brought a coffee pot and air fryer which would not be possible on a plane). I traveled with one checked bag, a carry on, and a backpack and feel as if I was able to bring everything I needed! I did vacuum seal my clothing which saved space in my bags so I highly recommend this! Additionally, Mackenzie graciously brought my bedding, pillow, and towels for me in her car which was a huge help! We will make a post about the house its self but just know that if you are unable to bring your own pillow, bedding and towels there are plenty here so do not stress! Also there was a small air fryer and coffee pot as well as other appliances here so if Mackenzie would not have brought hers we would have still been able to make it work!

I flew in from Atlanta the Sunday before our rotation started.  My round trip flight was around $450, but I used credit card points I had accumulated to cover this cost! Once I found out I was going on this rotation, I chose to open a travel rewards credit card (something I had been considering for a while anyway due to my love of travel), and I am so happy I made this choice! Having the cost of my flight covered was so so nice! The Riverton Airport is the closest place to fly into as it is only about 40 minutes from the house! This is an incredibly small airport - the airport is essentially one room and there is only one small plane that makes 3 trips a day to and from the Denver airport. This means there are no direct flights from ATL or anywhere else, so no matter what if you choose to fly into Riverton (which again I highly recommend), you will have a layover in Denver (which to me was not bad at all).

Once I landed in Riverton I took a taxi to the house. I used Gator Creek Taxi Service, which I highly recommend. You can easily find their number online and call and schedule a ride in advance. I called them a couple days before my flight, and the car was waiting for me outside the airport when I arrived - so convenient! The ride to the house cost $110 based on mileage and then I tipped the driver as well!

This brings me to the end of my travel journey!! Overall I had a great experience flying and recommend it to anyone who does not want to make the long drive here! The only caveat to that is if you and your rotation buddy both choose to fly you will have to split a rental car for 5 weeks so keep that in mind! Regardless of how you journey out here you will be rewarded by arriving at an exciting destination with lots of fun places to explore!!

Safe travels to you when you make your journey!!

-Madison
