Block 7: traveling to Wyoming
Hi!!
Today is 01/08/2024, and it was the first day of our rotation! So crazy that it is already 2024!!
But I wanted to make this post to talk about my travels!
I knew that I wanted to drive, so that I could have a car that was reliable in the snow. My sister actually lives in South Dakota, so I met her and she let me use her car since it was 4WD (which I highly recommend if you are here for block 7).
I started out in Greenville, SC since I left on the 29th of December. I drove to Knoxville, TN to pick up one of the UT students. We then headed to St. Louis, MS. I would recommend to not stop here. We had a hotel booked, and once we got to it we had to rebook at a different hotel. It can be a very sketchy town, so I am glad that I was not alone.
We then decided we were going to just drive the rest of the way to Colorado Springs, CO instead of stopping again. It was about 12 hours, but I am so glad that we did. We went to colorado springs to visit my sister, and celebrate New Years. It was awesome! We went to the "Garden of the Gods" and "Manatou Springs" on the first day and they were both beautiful. Since it was New Years we ended up going to dinner, and to Bell Brothers Brewing to celebrate!
The next day we went to a place called Train-wreck which was awesome. It was dark when we went, and cold so we didn't get to go outside which I was sad about.
And then on the 2nd we headed to Ft. Washakie, WY. It was about a 6 hour drive. If you ever drive from Colorado Springs to Ft. Washakie, make sure to stop and get gas multiple times before you get to Rawlins as that is the last place to stop and get gas. Once we got to the house we unpacked, watched some TV (they have an HDMI cord to hookup your laptop), and went to bed.
The next day we went to the grocery, and went to see Sacajawea's grave. This was so awesome to see, and super close to the house. The next day we went to the Shoshone Rose casino, which was really fun, and they have a great restaurant inside that is pretty cheap too. I lost $50 :)
We then decided to go to Sinks Canyon the next day, which was so cool. It was super snowy, so make sure you have good snow boots and a good jacket. I was wearing snow boots, a long puffy jacket, ear warmers, and gloves. I was warm though! We then headed to dinner at Gannett Grill, which is amazing.
Morgan (the other auburn student) then flew into Riverton the next day, so I went to pick her up.
And now we are starting rotation. So far this place is amazing. I love the snow. We don't have a shovel, but they keep the roads very paved, so it hasn't been too bad yet.
