2023 Block 3 Week 1

Monday: Day 1

  • We had a short drive (11 minutes) to the clinic in Ethete and started our first day of rotation. Our preceptor, Katherine, showed us around all the different pods of the clinic so we could familiarize ourselves. We met the staff at the clinic and, most importantly, ran into Ralph, one of the nurse’s cute little corgi pup! We dove in head first on day 1 with our first chart review project assessing h. pylori treatment within the 3 clinics.
  • Schedule: 9-4 or 8-3. We chose to come in 9-4 because we both enjoy sleeping in.
  • Meet the Roomies: In the evening our new roommates from UT, Jessie and Becca, arrived.

Tuesday: Rodeo Girls

  • Our day at the clinic was comprised of working on our chart review and learning the ins and outs of the clinic’s medication processing system. We also were given the opportunity to test out the Libre 2 and Libre 3 CGM systems. We look forward to using this experience to improve our understanding of the devices and provide better patient counseling and education.
  • Tuesday was quite the eventful day. First, we were kindly donated a flatscreen screen TV by Leslie, the technician at the Ethete clinic. Bringing the new TV into the house was no problem. Moving out the old dinosaur TV from the late 90s, however, was very difficult (Sarah Grace and I are not as strong as we believed we were). Later that evening we decided to join our UT roommates and head over to Riverton for the county fair/ rodeo.
  • Rodeo rating: 3/5 stars. It was an amazing experience but my allergies did not like the dirt and I did not like seeing the calves struggle to get up after being tied.

Wednesday: Study Time
  • Our morning started off strong with us nearly running over a wild dog (watch out because they are everywhere here). At clinic we continued to work on our project and participate in the work flow at the pharmacy. We spent our afternoon at Lincoln Street Bakery (which has amazing sourdough bread) where we started studying for our first RX Prep quiz.

Thursday: Waffle Fries
  • At the clinic, we continued to work on our project. After clinic, we had dinner at Gannet Grill/ Lander Bar. The waffle fries are amazing (you need to try the ranch and fry sauce).
Friday: Walk around Town
  • Friday was a half day at clinic so we spent our afternoon at the bakery working on more RX prep materials, had a look around at the shops in Lander, and then headed home.
Saturday: Thermopolis
  • We decided to spend our first weekend of the rotation sightseeing close to home. We headed up to Thermopolis to experience the natural hot spring waters at the State Bathhouse (which is free)! There was an event going on in the park near the bathhouse so we had a look around at the local art vendors. Soaking in the hot spring felt amazing; smelling like a boiled egg for the 2 hour journey home was less than amazing (lol). After washing off the sulfur smell, we headed over to Cowfish for dinner where I had rainbow trout for the first time and highly recommend trying.
Sunday: Hail Fail
  • We planned to hike up to Popo Agie falls however, we were awoken by the sound of weather sirens so we decided to spend the day at home instead. There was a short hail storm in the afternoon. Overall, it felt nice to have a relaxing day and rest up for the next week of clinic.
