Block 5 Post 3

Week 3:

During this week, we had our typical daily activities, and we completed an educational bulletin board for Diabetes Awareness Month in November!

This weekend Nina flew back to an important wedding she had back in Mobile, so we drove her up to Jackson for her flight out!

While Nina was in Mobile, Ada and I rented an Air B and B in the lovely little town of Victor, ID. Just over Teton Pass. P.S. It is typically cheaper to stay in ID side of Jackson but if the weather is bad I would be cautious about driving over Teton Pass.

     Ada and Olive Weekend:

Wednesday: sidewinders, stayed in Victor, Snow Teton pass/south pass, moose on road (watch out for wildlife while driving in the dark!)

     Thursday: Hiking tetons

     Leigh lake

     Jackson lake

     Dinner: Lasagna, Yellowstone episode 1

Friday: slept in/worked on school/CV residency programs

     second hand hiking gear store

     Walked around Victor

     Idaho Food Shed

     Dinner: West Side Yard Brewery

     Saturday: Yellowstone

     Fountain paint pots

     Old faithful

     Yellowstone river—waterfalls, Grand Canyon (Yellowstone’s)

     Sunday: Jebediah’s Wilderness

     Green mountain trail

Car wash—much needed after a very muddy hike

     Jackson to pick up Nina

     Dinner @sidewinders

Week 4:

This was our second to last week in wyoming. This week we hosted two vaccine clinics at the Wyoming Indian Highschool in Ethete. Here we provided flu and COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters!

As one of our writing assignments, we also gave an Insulin Inservice to nursing staff at the clinic.

This week was the ALSHP residency showcase. Because this program was virtual we were actually able to participate. However! Be sure to get the time change right if you have any virtual meetings while you’re out West! Wyoming is one hour behind Alabama so 2:00 pm CST - 5:00 pmCST is actually 1:00 pm - 4:00pm in Mountain Standard Time (just as an example)

Since the vaccination clinics were after normal working hours we had one half day to go explore the city of Thermopolis. Here we took a dip in the hot springs public pools and saw some dinosaurs!

After completing our tasks for the week last weekend in Jackson and my parents came to visit! We had dinner in Lander and then drove up to Jackson the next day. I took my parents to many restaurants and many of the parts of Yellowstone I had already been to before with Nina and Ada and tried, but failed, to go to Jenny Lake. (They close off this public road at the end of the season. You can still walk there but we just didn’t have enough time.)This was the very last date Yellowstone was open for the season and they ended up closing early for some winter weather. So be sure to look up when the parks are opened or plan on closing and always check wdot.com for updates when roads close for weather or falling rock!

Nina and Ada stayed with some of Ada’s family friends and got to live like a local for the weekend!
