Arapahoe Clinic - Weeks 1&2

Image
Autumn, Lauren, and I spent the first day of rotation getting our bearings for the building and meeting all the friendly pharmacy staff that we will be working with for the next 5 weeks. The first few days consisted of working the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic on-site and even a special clinic at a nearby park in Riverton! The clinic built an outside garage dedicated to testing and vaccinations to minimize exposure to staff and other patients in the clinic.                                     When we weren't working directly in the clinic with the nurses to provide immunizations and testing for patients, we assisted inside by drawing up the vaccines. Pfizer vials we had to retrieve from the "ultra-cold freezer" and dilute with normal saline to prepare them for administration. Once each of us received access to the EHR and ScriptPro, we were able to start charting for patients and begin pro...

Jackson Hole

Jordan, Autumn, and I decided to spend our first weekend of our IHS rotation by traveling to Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons! When planning our first weekend trip, we checked with our preceptor and ended up taking Friday off. We looked at hotels, but they were all so expensive that we ended up booking a hostel in Teton Village (thanks to our well traveled Autumn's keen deal-finding skills). https://www.thehostel.us We left Thursday after clinic around 4PM and got to The Hostel around 7:30PM. Jordan and I were pleasantly surprised by our room (the whole hostel thing was a little stressful for us). Due to COVID, we had a private room with 4 twin beds for the three of us. They even had coffee, tea, and hot chocolate every day with common areas complete with a full kitchen and lounge area. After getting settled Thursday night, we picked Teton Thai for dinner since it was walking distance from The Hostel. The food was delicious with great spice (Autumn might tell you her spice level w...

Getting to Wyoming

Image
Jordan, Autumn, and I decided to fly into Jackson Hole Airport and rent a car. Jordan and I flew in Saturday and spent the night in Jackson at the Anvil Hotel. https://anvilhotel.com FYI: Hotels in Jackson are PRICEY! So I'd recommend you book early and thoroughly look at all your options in the area! We flew from Birmingham, AL to Jackson Hole with a 1-hour layover in DFW. It was about $200 to fly out to WY, and we did not book a return flight since we wanted to see what our preceptor expected (and in case we decided to not go home but to live with bison and antelope instead!)  The rental car we picked up at the airport when we flew in. Heads up: a rental car for 5 weeks is expensive (about $3000). ALSO, they can increase your rate if you're <25 y/o and most people are covered in a rental car under their car insurance policy, so there's no need to buy extra rental car insurance through the company (TOTAL scam). We picked up Autumn on Sunday and started our journey to F...
