Week 3 Rotation and Yellowstone

Image
Week 3 Alright guys, Tom at it again here with a "shorter" blog post for this week. We had rotation back at Ethete on Tuesday and told everyone about our adventures up in Jackson and Pinedale. It was another standard week of rotation with us filling, dispensing, counseling when the opportunity arose, and finishing up a Diabetes presentation we had on DPP4 inhibitors on Wednesday. At lunchtime, Katherine gave us a little extra time to drive up to Riverton to drop our friends off at the airport and still get lunch too. On Wednesday, we had our presentation during the Pharmacy and Therapeutics meeting, which everyone said went well! It was a laid-back meeting and presentation discussing the use of DPP4s and the cost-effectiveness of them in comparison with other diabetes medications. On Thursday, after rotation, we briefly went to a trail in Lander called the Bus Loop, which we struggled to find for a little while, but once we did, we spent about an hour out there. It is a prett...

Week 2 - Johnny & Jackson Hole

Week 2 Hello again, When we first got to town Tom and I passed an interesting looking trail that was called Johnny Behind the Rocks. Last Sunday we were able to go out there for the first time. We decided to hike up Red Ridge and try to make it to Johnny Falls, then hiked back on Dry Well Road (despite the name you are still climbing up a massive hill). Also, the Egyptian Time Machine sounds cool, but there’s no pyramids or hieroglyphics to look at so, wouldn’t recommend. Round trip it was going to be about an 8-mile hike. This is a trail that I would say is definitely worth it, the snow made it more difficult for us of course but the views it had were amazing. Just be sure you do it with plenty of daylight and are prepared to climb up about 650 ft. if you take the same paths that we did.       We spent week 2 at the Riverton clinic and met the staff over there. Everyone was very nice and had great recommendations on things to do in the area and Jackson. We spent t...

Block 7 - Week 1 - Rotation and Adventures

Image
Hi everyone!      My name is John, and I will be posting the follow-up to Tom’s travel and house post. My post will focus more on the rotation, things we have been able to do after rotation, and our first weekend in Wyoming.             Tom and I were able to come up a couple of days early to get settled before the rotation officially started. We pulled into Fort Washakie around 6 PM. The next morning, we made a list of groceries and things that we needed for the house. The two closest options were Safeway and Mr. D’s in Lander which is about 20-30 minutes from the house. Safeway probably has a slightly larger selection, but Tom and I found that Mr. D’s had better prices. That afternoon we went to Sink’s Canyon State Park to see what was out there. We ended up going on our hike during the “first good snow of the season” according to the pharmacists, but it was a fun hike, especially in the snow. We went about 4 miles (only losing a phone...

Block 7 2025 Week 1 Traveling - Windmills and Mountains

Image
Hey everyone! My name is Tom, and this will be my first blog post during our Block 7 adventure! What I’m going to do with this first blog is give you guys a rundown of what our first week looked like and our drive up here from Auburn, AL. We knew the snow was coming, and neither of us had ever driven in snowy conditions before, so we wanted to leave early enough to beat the snow. My friend John, who is on the rotation with me, and I left on New Year’s Day. We went through Memphis and planned our first stop in Oklahoma. We have a friend from our pharmacy class who lives there, and her family was kind enough to let us stay the night. After that, we got back on the road and went all the way up to Denver, Colorado, (the hotel was in Cherry Creek) where we stayed in a hotel for the night. The hotel was about $130 for two beds—not bad at all for anyone else considering driving. That night we met one of John's friends at a burger place called The Cherry Cricket which we recommend to anyon...
